Washington, DC Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14), Chair of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee, will convene the first U.S. House of Representatives Hearing focused on the sexual harassment SPC Vanessa Guillén suffered prior to her disappearance and murder at Fort Hood, and will review the lack of reporting of sexual harassment in the Department of Defense writ large due to a fear of retaliation and history of coverup.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) voted to pass H.R. 1957, the Great American Outdoors Act, to provide permanent, full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and establish the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund. This strong, bipartisan legislation, which passed the Senate last month, builds on the progress made by last year's John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act.

WASHINGTON, DC – This afternoon, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) and Texas Congressional Democrats will host a press conference focused on Governor Greg Abbott's failed leadership in Texas during this ongoing pandemic and how this virus is disproportionately affecting Latino and African-American across the state. The members will be demanding for Governor Abbott to allow local municipal and county officials to take additional steps (i.e., stay-at-home orders) to protect their residents from the sustained spike in COVID-19 cases across the state.

HOUSTON, TX - Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded nearly $2 million to BakerRipley for its Head Start Programs.

BakerRipley's Head Start and Early Head Start Programs provide critical educational support to low-income families and their children all across the Houston region.

HOUSTON, TX – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) introduced the Wear Your Mask Act, H.R. 7524, which would require individuals in any federally owned, leased or operated facilities or buildings to wear a face mask. All facilities in this category would have to supply face masks at all public entrances to those who do not have one. This Act will be in effect until the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases determines that this requirement is no longer needed to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
