Financial Services

Throughout her public service career, Congresswoman Garcia has always been a strong advocate for increased access to financial services and had led way for a strong economy and new jobs for working families and Americans.  

After her service as Harris County’s Controller, she was the first Latina to be elected to Harris County Commissioner’s Court. In both offices, she protected working families’ pocketbooks, earning a reputation as an advocate for taxpayers.  

Now, as a Congresswoman, she serves on the House Financial Services Committee as Vice Ranking Member. In this role, she has been a strong advocate of increased consumer protections, investments in our community banks and developments, and bolstering the nation’s housing supply. Congresswoman Garcia has also advocated for increase language access and equal representation for all in the financial services sector.  

  • Congresswoman Garcia also introduced the Multilingual Financial Literacy Act and the Community Finance Language Inclusion Act. Both bills would expand language access in the financial sector by providing financial literacy outreach and resources in multiple languages.  

  • She cosponsored the Homeownership for DREAMers Act. This bill would prohibit federal mortgage providers from limiting insurance eligibility on the basis of the mortgagor’s participation in the DACA program.  

  • Congresswoman Garcia is a cosponsor of the Housing Crisis Response Act of 2023. This bill would help alleviate the current housing crisis by facilitating the development of fair and affordable housing and decreasing housing costs across the board.
