The Republican Health Care Crisis:
Higher Costs, Less Coverage

If Congress does not extend the enhanced premium tax credits immediately, hundreds of thousands of people will lose their health care and millions more will see their costs skyrocket. Current estimates show Americans would see their out-of-pocket premiums increase by 114% if Republicans refuse to act. Republicans acted quickly to pass tax cuts for their billionaire buddies by July 4, despite them also expiring December 31 of this year. Americans are already getting notices about skyrocketing costs and deciding now if they can afford to keep their health coverage.

The government shut down on October 1st because Conservative leaders refuse to work with Democrats to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and roll back the deep Medicaid cuts in the “Big Ugly Bill.”

Democrats have a plan to keep health care affordable, and I am committed to fighting for it. We need solutions that lower costs, not political games that make life more expensive. Families in TX-29 deserve better.

What this means for TX-29 families:

111,000 people in TX-29 will see their health care costs increase if Republicans let critical tax credits expire.

  • For a 60-year-old couple earning $82,800 a year, premiums will rise by $15,266 (234%).
  • For a family of four earning $64,000 a year, premiums will increase by $2,571 (261%).
  • For a family of four earning $129,800 a year, premiums will rise by $7,400 (70%).
  • 51,857 people in TX-29 will lose health coverage because of cuts to Medicaid and attacks on the Affordable Care Act.
  • 3,457 people in TX-29 will lose coverage due to Medicaid cuts in Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill.”
  • 48,400 people in TX-29 will lose coverage because of the expiration of tax credits and new red tape.
What this means for America:
  • A typical family of four making $125,000 would see their health care costs increase by $7,700 on average.
  • A 60-year-old couple making $80,000 would see their health care costs increase by $17,500 on average.
  • A family of four making $64,000 would see their health care costs increase by $2,600 on average.
  • 15 million Americans will lose their health insurance under the Big Ugly Law and the Republican plot to gut Affordable Care Act tax credits
Democrats are fighting to stop Republicans from taking away your coverage and raising your health care costs.
