WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) joined Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) and over 190 House Members to introduce H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore and expand on voter protections from the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This bill comes amid repeated attacks on voters by states like Texas, and attacks on the Voting Rights Act in the courts, especially after Shelby Co. v. Holder (2013) and Brnovich v. DNC (2021).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Small Business Administration has reported that it granted over $41 million to restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues in Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia's district, Texas' 29th. Congresswoman Garcia voted to provide this funding through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) and the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG), parts of the American Rescue Plan designed to help businesses make up for lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WASHINGTON, DC — On Thursday, United Airlines announced its decision to proceed with outsourcing catering jobs to a third-party vendor. French company, NewRest, will take over United's kitchen operations in Houston. This decision means that Houston United Airlines workers could lose the benefits of a union job.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) led Texas Democratic representatives in a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal urging the leaders to promote employment and ways to help families in any upcoming budget reconciliation legislation by including permanent reforms to our unemployment insurance (UI) system.

At midnight on Saturday, June 26th, all federal pandemic assistance for unemployed workers in Texas was prematurely cut off.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) along with the Democratic Women's Caucus leadership, sent a letter to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) advocating for increasing diversity and reducing structural barriers to participation in the broker-dealer industry. The letter was sent in response to FINRA's Regulatory Notice 21-17, which called for comment on "Supporting Diversity and Inclusion in the Broker-Dealer Industry."

"The Supreme Court's duty is to protect the Constitution and our democracy. Today's wrongful decision comes amid a continuous right-wing onslaught against free and fair elections and reflects that citizens of every race will not have equal voting opportunities."
