WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) announced the first round of investments in repairing Texas bridges coming in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The funding announced this year is part of a larger 5-year grant, where Texas is expected to receive $537 million for repairs. This year, $107.4 million will be coming to Texas to repair bridges across the state, including over 818 Texas bridges found to be in poor condition.

"Residents of my district, Harris County and across Texas rely on our bridges to get to work, go to school, and live their daily lives," said Congresswoman Garcia. "I am proud that the Infrastructure law is already delivering results for our community to make our bridges safer and prepare them for future growth."

The investment announced today is designed to help the State of Texas repair local bridges that are critical for moving people, goods, and commerce. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act also includes additional funding through a competitive grant program that communities can apply for to receive funds on top of their allotment in this investment.

"I look forward to funds coming to Harris County that will help us rebuild our bridges," said Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. "Today's announcement represents a once-in-a-generation influx of funds to upgrade our bridges. These investments are absolutely vital to ensuring that our community is prepared for growth in the coming decades. I want to thank Congresswoman Garcia and every member of our Congressional delegation who voted for the Administration's Infrastructure Bill."
