Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) recognized National Public Schools Week which runs from February 21 until February 25. The American Rescue Plan Congresswoman Garcia helped pass secured $12.4 Billion for Texas K-12 schools to stay open safely and make up for lost learning time. Nationwide, the American Rescue Plan provided $130 billion for schools to stay open, and an additional $10 billion to help schools conduct COVID-19 testing for students and staff.
"All children deserve access to a safe and high-quality education in the great state of Texas and across our nation", said Congresswoman Garcia. "Nearly one year ago, Democrats delivered the largest one-time federal investment in K-12 schools in history. These funds will help ensure the leaders of tomorrow have the educational and health resources they need today."
The historic investment from the American Rescue Plan delivers $1.3 billion+ total for the school districts in Congresswoman Garcia's Congressional district, including Houston ISD, Aldine ISD, Pasadena ISD, Sheldon ISD, Humble ISD, Channelview ISD, Galena Park ISD, and Deer Park ISD.
