WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Sylvia Garcia and members of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties held a hearing in Houston on the enforcement of the Voting Rights Act in the state of Texas. The subcommittee gathered testimony from voting rights scholars and practitioners from throughout the state on barriers to exercising the right to vote in Texas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia rebuffed Attorney General Barr's recent policy reversal to withhold bail from asylum seekers. Barr, in a written decision, ordered immigration judges to stop granting immigrants who established "a credible fear of persecution or torture" in their home country from posting bail, condemning most asylum seekers to indefinite detainment while they await the completion proceedings.
