Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Reacts to Reports of Horrific Conditions for Children Held in Immigration Detention

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in reaction to reports of horrific conditions for children held by Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"Reports of how children are being treated in US custody are horrific. As a nation, we must do better. The very thought that a child isn't entitled to basic hygiene is unconscionable. We must do everything in our power to seek community alternatives to detention. In the meantime, the American people deserve answers. That's why I will visit these facilities again as soon as possible so that I can learn firsthand what's happening. And we will fight to make sure no child endures harsh conditions in our care."
