Washington D.C. - Hoy se ha aprobado en la Cámara de Representantes el proyecto de ley bipartidista de la congresista Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) para renombrar la oficina postal de Galveston Road en Houston en memoria a su constituyente, a la SPC Vanessa Guillén. El asesinato de Vanessa a manos de otro soldado generó olas nacionales en todo el país, lo que finalmente condujo a un cambio histórico en el código militar que trasladó las investigaciones de acoso y agresión sexual fuera de la cadena de mando militar.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia's (TX-29) bipartisan bill to rename the post office on Galveston Road in Houston after her constituent, SPC Vanessa Guillén, passed the House. The murder of Vanessa at the hands of another soldier generated national waves across the country – ultimately leading to a landmark change in the military code that moved sexual assault and harassment investigations outside of the military's chain of command.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response to a jury finding Andre Jackson guilty of murdering 11-year-old Josue Flores.

"Nearly six years later, Andre Jackson will face justice for the senseless murder of an innocent 11-year-old child, Josue Flores. In May 2016, Josue was a precious student walking home from school when his life was cut short by an evil act of violence in my hometown neighborhood. I vividly remember this sad day – it hit much too close to home."
