Houston, Texas – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $3,600,000 from President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to Houston's William P. Hobby Airport. The airport will use the funds to improve ADA access, enhance energy efficiency, and address capacity needs by installing new gates and baggage systems.

"Houstonians and Americans across the country deserve the best airport infrastructure possible," said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. "Today's generous grant will improve customer experiences, move goods through the economy more efficiently to lower prices, and enhance Houston's competitiveness. I look forward to seeing the positive economic benefits this will have on our regional and local economy."

"Americans deserve modern airports that meet the needs of their families and growing passenger demand. Funded through President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, today's grants will improve airport terminals while also creating good jobs in communities across the country," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Specifically, the grant will be used to develop wheelchair turning clearances in restrooms, video relay services, animal relief services, hearing loops and sensory rooms as well as adult changing and mother's rooms. Investments in energy efficiency enhances – including new lighting, high efficiency insulation and energy efficient glass. New gates and baggage systems will also be installed to enhance the airport's capacity needs.

Today's funding is from the Airport Terminal Program, one of three aviation programs created by the President's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law -- also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The law provides $1 billion annually for five years for Airport Terminal grants.
