Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response to a jury finding Andre Jackson guilty of murdering 11-year-old Josue Flores.
"Nearly six years later, Andre Jackson will face justice for the senseless murder of an innocent 11-year-old child, Josue Flores. In May 2016, Josue was a precious student walking home from school when his life was cut short by an evil act of violence in my hometown neighborhood. I vividly remember this sad day – it hit much too close to home."

Following pressure from civil liberties groups and members of President Biden's own party, the CDC will reportedly soon do away with Title 42, the Covid-era restriction that allows instant expulsions of migrants at the Southern border.
Expected to end in May, Title 42 is a clause from the 1944 public health code that allows the government to take emergency action to stop the "introduction of communicable diseases" into the U.S., but it had been rarely used until the Trump Administration implemented it as an immigration policy during the Covid pandemic. The Biden Administration continued its implementation, but the decision to continue Title 42 comes up for review every 60 days.
A bill that proposes to create a whistleblower program for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has been reintroduced to the House after failing to be acted upon by the Senate in 2019.
