The murder of Vanessa at the hands of another soldier generated national waves across the country – ultimately leading to a landmark change in the military code that moved sexual assault and harassment investigations outside of the military's chain of command.

"Nearly six years later, Andre Jackson will face justice for the senseless murder of an innocent 11-year-old child, Josue Flores. In May 2016, Josue was a precious student walking home from school when his life was cut short by an evil act of violence in my hometown neighborhood. I vividly remember this sad day – it hit much too close to home."
