Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response to a jury finding Andre Jackson guilty of murdering 11-year-old Josue Flores.

"Nearly six years later, Andre Jackson will face justice for the senseless murder of an innocent 11-year-old child, Josue Flores. In May 2016, Josue was a precious student walking home from school when his life was cut short by an evil act of violence in my hometown neighborhood. I vividly remember this sad day – it hit much too close to home."

"Josue's sacrifice inspired me to introduce the Josue Flores Act when I was in the Texas Senate. The bill gives school districts extra money to create transportation options for students who are at a high risk of violence while walking to and from school. I wanted to make sure no other family experienced the pain Josue and his family felt."

"Josue was taken from his family and the community too soon. We can never replace him and his beautiful personality, but we must continue working together to ensure our communities, especially our youth, are safe from violence."
