Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's disturbing directive calling for asylum seekers at the Texas border to be transported and released at the steps of the United States Capitol.

"I'm deeply troubled by Governor Abbott's heinous political stunt calling for the unfair punishment of vulnerable asylum seekers. He is targeting innocent people for simply escaping desolate poverty, cruel violence, and extremely dangerous situations."
