Garcia (TX-29) released a statement expressing her strong opposition to the news that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) plans to keep federal dollars, appropriated under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, from being distributed directly to local educational agencies (LEAs).

HOUSTON, TX – Earlier today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) was alerted that she was exposed to COVID-19 by a family member whose test result came back positive for the virus. The Congresswoman has been tested and is awaiting results. After consulting with her physician and the Attending Physician of the United States Congress, the Congresswoman will be self-isolating for the period of time recommended by the CDC.
