WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representatives Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) and Ann Wagner (R-MO) introduced the bipartisan Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies (EARN IT) Act. This piece of legislation is the House companion bill to the bipartisan Senate version, which was introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and has already been unanimously passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Garcia (TX-29) filed the Protect Older Job Applicants Act, which will codify and clarify protections for older job applicants in the current Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Additionally, it will prohibit employers from asking for a job applicant's age or date of birth before the completion and submission of a job application.

WASHINGTON, DC – Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Tom Carper (D-DE), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) introduced the Wear Your Mask Act today, the Senate companion bill to Congresswoman Garcia's Wear Your Mask Act. This bill would require all people in federal buildings and facilities across the country – including post offices, Social Security offices, and the U.S. Capitol – to wear a face mask any time they are within six feet of another person.

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) had her Elder Abuse Protection Act of 2020 marked up by the House Judiciary Committee. This bill would direct the Attorney General to establish the Elder Justice Initiative within the Department of Justice Criminal Division. The Elder Justice Initiative would be responsible for coordinating criminal enforcement and public engagement efforts to combat elder abuse, neglect, and financial fraud and scams that target elders.
