WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia applauded the passage of the historic Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2.2 trillion economic relief package that will put families and workers first and that will now go to the President's desk for his signature.

"Thank you Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Mayor Sylvester Turner for taking bold action that will save lives. It will take a regional response with Galveston and Fort Bend counties to stop the further spread of this virus and support all of the workers on the front lines.

HOUSTON, TX - Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) filed legislation that would provide minority-owned businesses $3 billion in grants through the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). It was included as a provision in The Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act, H.R. 6379, the coronavirus economic stimulus package unveiled earlier today by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. This provision would support the MBDA in fully implementing the Initiative to Build Growth Equity Funds for minority-owned businesses.
