WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) introduces the Polling Access Safety Act (PASA), a bill to prevent immigration enforcement from being used as a voter intimidation tactic.

To protect eligible voters' sense of security at the polls and encourage free and fair elections, PASA would:

● Bar immigration enforcement actions at or within one mile of a polling location on a voting day, except under exigent circumstances.

● Bar federal officials from checking identification at polling locations, except in exigent circumstances.

WASHINGTON, DC —The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded nearly $600,000 for disaster assistance in the Texas 29th Congressional District.

The Harris County Department of Education has received the Office of Head Start - Administration for Children and Families grant for Harris County's Head Start Disaster Assistance Program.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Financial Services Committee has confirmed that Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO, will be testifying before the committee on October 23rd, 2019. He will be there to answer questions about Facebook's Libra Project. The Committee and many of its members have previously expressed concerns about the project and its proposed rollout. There are many unanswered questions regarding why Facebook is even developing a cryptocurrency, as well as how it will affect the global economy and consumers and how it will address associated security risks.

Leader Hoyer and Sylvia Garcia's visit will focus on BakerRipley's work addressing urban poverty, a focus of the Majority Leader's Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity for which Congresswoman Garcia is a vice-chair. HOUSTON, TX. – La tormenta tropical Imelda causó estragos y daño en Houston y el condado Harris, donde en partes del condado Harris cayó más de 43 pulgadas de agua en solo 72 horas. HOUSTON, TX. – Tropical storm Imelda wreaked havoc on Houston and greater Harris County after dumping as much as 43 inches of rain in 72 hours in parts of Harris County. So far, five people have been reported dead, and several others injured as a result of the storm. Imelda also caused significant damage to hundreds of buildings and homes, county infrastructure, and the largest USPS Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) in the country, located in Houston, TX.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) joined her colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass the bipartisan FAIR Act, which would end the use of forced arbitration in consumer, worker, civil rights, and antitrust disputes. Currently more than 60 million workers are unable to sue their employer in public court if they have been terminated or faced unlawful harassment. Forced arbitration has permitted employers and corporations to create a privatized justice system where the constitution's protections are manipulated in their favor.
