WASHINGTON, DC — Earlier this week, the Houston City Council approved $24 million in federal funding that will go towards the East End Maker Hub, a startup hub in the Texas 29th Congressional District.

The hub will allow businesses that spur innovation to lease collaborative working space out of a 300,000-plus-square-foot warehouse in Houston's East End. TXRX Labs and the Urban Partnerships Community Development Corporation are working together to provide apprenticeships to low-income residents of the Texas 29th Congressional district, in order to provide opportunity and skills to those in our community.

Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia's Statement:

"The East End Maker Hub is going to propel our community forward and prepare our workforce for the future. Houston is known for its innovation, and I am excited for the East End to become a bustling hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the greater Houston area. This new venture will help young entrepreneurs and manufacturers collaborate and innovate for the future and will revitalize the East End community. I look forward to seeing the amazing work Houstonians will do in this new startup hub."
