HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA–Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), member of the House Judiciary Committee and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, accompanied Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26) and Congresswoman Donna Shalala (FL-27) in a delegation visit to the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Migrant Children. Homestead is the largest facility for unaccompanied immigrant children in the country run by a for-profit corporation and is rapidly expanding.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia joined Congressman Joaquin Castro and more than 220 other lawmakers from both sides of the aisle in introducing the National Emergencies Act (NEA), a resolution to terminate the Trump Administration's National Emergency Declaration. The emergency declaration signed by President Trump last week seeks to divert over $3 billion from military resources to build a proposed border wall on the southwestern border, effectively circumventing Congress to secure money that lawmakers have refused to give him.

Two Houstonians – Devani Gonzalez and Brij Agrawal – got the chance to witness the President Trump deliver his State of the Union address to Congress in person.
They both are immigrants: Agrawal was born in India, and is a Subway franchisee, and Gonzalez a Mexican-born teacher dreaming of becoming a Houston cop.

Devani is a Substitute Teacher who came to the United States when she was 7 years old.
