WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) joined, Congressman James McGovern (D-MA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and 93 members of Congress urging Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to press the Colombian government to commit to peace and stop the escalation of violence against Colombian human rights defenders.

HOUSTON, TX – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) led a letter with 87 Members of Congress in support of Rep. Speier and Sen. Gillibrand's request for Sean O'Donnell, the Department of Defense (DoD) Inspector General, to conduct an independent investigation into Fort Hood's handling of Specialist (SPC) Vanessa Guillen's case. Speier serves as Chair of the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee and Senator Gillibrand is Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Personnel of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

HOUSTON, TX — Yesterday, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) filed H.R. 7456 alongside Rep. Don Young (AK-At-Large), Rep. Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), Rep. Brian Babin (TX-36), and Rep. Steven Palazzo (MS-04). This bill would create a grant program for community and technical colleges offering exceptional training programs for maritime industry professions. The bill would also authorize $200 million nationwide to fund the grant program.

Garcia (TX-29) and Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) filed H.R. 7456, which would create a grant program for community and technical colleges offering exceptional training programs for maritime industry professions. The bill would also authorize $200 million nationwide to fund the grant program. The bill would directly impact San Jacinto College, which has campuses in both Congresswoman Garcia and Congressman Babin's districts.
