The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was the granting agency and was funded in part by President Biden's American Rescue Plan (ARP) – which Congresswoman Garcia strongly supported in Congress.

The Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that in its continuing efforts to tamp down inflation, it would raise interest rates yet again by another three-quarters of a point to a target range of 3.75 to 4 percent.
Federal Reserve Chairperson Jerome Powell said during a press conference following the announcement that the "historically fast pace" of rate increases is "appropriate given the persistence and strength in inflation and low level at which we started."

Close to a dozen Democratic lawmakers called on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to explain how many Americans will lose their jobs as a result of their efforts to mitigate high inflation.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), and Reps. Madeleine Dean (Pa.), Jesús Garcia (Ill.), Sylvia Garcia (Texas), Katie Porter (Calif.), Stephen Lynch (Mass.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.) signed the letter to Powell sent on Monday.
Given the lawmakers' concerns about the consequences of the Fed's dangerous policy decisions, they are asking Chair Powell to answer a set of questions about how many millions of people the Fed estimates will be thrown out of their jobs due to interest rate hikes, and more information about these and other unemployment forecasts by November 14, 2022.
