WASHINGTON, DC — The House Judiciary Committee has been investigating President Trump for obstruction of justice, corruption, and abuse of power during the spring. Earlier today, the House Judiciary Committee voted to define a set of procedures, consistent with House Rules, for an impeachment investigation of President Trump and to determine whether it should recommend articles of impeachment.
The House Minority suggests that the Committee's impeachment investigation and procedures require a House vote; however, the investigation is fully consistent with the Constitution, House Rules, and past precedent. The passage of H.Res. 430 reaffirmed that the Committee "has any and all necessary authority under Article I of the Constitution" to conduct an impeachment investigation of the President.
Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia's Statement:
"As a lawyer and former judge, I believe it is important that the Committee follows the evidence wherever it may lead us in determining whether or not to recommend articles of impeachment," said Congresswoman Garcia. No person is above the law, including the President of the United States. We have a constitutional obligation to investigate all potentially impeachable offenses."
