WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) joined colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass the bipartisan TRACED Act, which protects consumers from unwanted robocalls. In 2018, Americans received an estimated 48 billion robocalls, an increase of over 64% since 2016. Consumer lives are being disrupted every day by ongoing attempts to steal their information. With this trend increasing, this bill is a major step in restoring Americans' control over their own phones and protecting their information from scammers.

Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) Statement:

"The TRACED Act will allow citizens to block spam calls and empower the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in protecting Americans from these scammers. With nearly half of all calls placed to cell phones being spam calls, this bill would hold scammers accountable and protect consumers, especially our seniors. I'm proud to take action on this crisis by cosponsoring and voting in favor of this important piece of legislation."

Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent Texas 29th Congressional district.
