Rep. Sylvia Garcia’s Statement on House Judiciary Committee Vote to Hold Attorney General Barr in Contempt

May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Sylvia Garcia released the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress:

"Our Constitution gives the American people, through their Congress, the right to demand answers from the President and his Administration to ensure they are acting on their behalf and to hold them accountable for their actions in office. The Attorney General's refusal to comply with the House Judiciary Committee's subpoenas undermines our Founders' system of check and balances and put's our democracy at risk.

Congresswoman Garcia continued: "Today's vote to hold the Attorney General in contempt is about transparency, accountability, and upholding the rule of law on behalf of the American people. No one—not myself, not the Attorney General, and not the President—is above the law"
