WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announces she is joining the new bipartisan Venezuela Democracy Caucus. The current circumstances in Venezuela have led to more than 94% of people living in poverty, and more than 4 million Venezuelans fleeing the country. This bipartisan caucus works to support freedom for the Venezuelan people and advocates for an end to the abuses they are facing.

Statement from Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia:

"The people of Venezuela are facing extreme human rights abuses, along with deprivation and repression, because of the Maduro regime. We must stand against this regime and fight for the basic human rights that the Venezuelan people are being refused."

"Additionally, I am a strong supporter of the Humanitarian Assistance to the Venezuelan People Act of 2019 and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Venezuela Democracy Caucus to ensure that this bill is passed in the Senate. This bill would provide much needed relief to the Venezuelan people who are fleeing the Maduro regime."

Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent Texas 29th Congressional district.
