WASHINGTON, DC — Tomorrow, Friday, September 6th, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship will hold a field hearing in El Paso, TX, Chaired by Rep. Zoe Lofgren. Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia is grateful that the subcommittee, under Chairwoman Lofgren's leadership, will be conducting important oversight of the Trump Administration's border policies and the relationship between anti-immigrant rhetoric and domestic terrorism. The Congresswoman feels strongly that the Trump Administration's anti-immigrant and racist policies have resulted in an increase in anti-immigrant and anti-Latino sentiments across the country.
Statement from Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia
"The El Paso shooting, which resulted in the death of 22 people, was motivated by anti-immigrant and anti-Latino sentiments that mirror the Trump's Administration's rhetoric and policies towards immigrants and Latinos," said Congresswoman Garcia.
"It is important that Congress finds ways to address the relationship between anti-immigrant rhetoric and domestic terrorism in order to prevent future acts of domestic terrorism. It is also critical that our Republican colleagues, the President and his Administration reconsider their rhetoric and collaborate with Democrats in order to defeat domestic terrorism in the United States."
