Rep. Sylvia Garcia Announces Nearly $600,000 for Disaster Assistance in the Texas 29th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, DC —The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded nearly $600,000 for disaster assistance in the Texas 29th Congressional District.
The Harris County Department of Education has received the Office of Head Start - Administration for Children and Families grant for Harris County’s Head Start Disaster Assistance Program.
This program will provide funding to children and families in Harris County who have been negatively affected by natural disasters, such as Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Imelda. The grant will assist the Harris County Department of Education with resuming Head Start programs, providing health support, and providing safe environments for those displaced by disasters.
“Our community was hit hard two years ago by Hurricane Harvey and most recently by Tropical Storm Imelda,” said Congresswoman Garcia. It is critical that we continue to support our community as it recovers. This includes making sure our children can resume participation in school and other educational programs, as well as ensuring that families can receive the health support they need and have access to safe environments after a disaster such as Harvey or Imelda.”
Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent Texas 29th Congressional district.
