WASHINGTON, DCToday, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announced that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding nearly $16 million for continued Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

These awards were granted through FEMA's Public Assistance Grants Programs, which funds the repair, reconstruction or replacement of a public facility or infrastructure damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster.

The grantees include:

  • The Houston Housing Authority, which was awarded nearly $11 million to restore damages from Hurricane Harvey to a residential complex.
  • The YMCA of Greater Houston, which was awarded nearly $3 million to repair damages sustained by the D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA Building #1 and Lake Houston Family YMCA.

  • The Harris County Hospital District, which was awarded nearly $3 million for emergency protective measures.

"This federal funding will make a significant difference in continued recovery efforts two years after Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston," said Congresswoman Garcia. "I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that Houston fully recovers from the destruction and damages sustained during the Hurricane. It is why I have been proud to cosponsor and vote for legislation that ensured Houston received the recovery money it deserved after the Hurricane."
