Lands spot on new Subcommittee on Diversity & Inclusion focusing on reducing discrimination in financial services for low-income individuals and communities.

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, D-Houston, has secured a position on the House Financial Services Subcommittee Oversight and Investigations. She also secured a position on the newly formed House Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion.

“I consider these assignments vital to the Houston Region, the State of Texas and the entire country. We must work to ensure this economy works for everyone and that everyone has a seat at the table, while protecting consumers from abusive financial practices.”

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations has broad responsibility for ensuring that federal agencies, and private entities are operating within the bounds established by federal law, has oversight of all federal financial regulators, and is authorized to conduct investigations into allegations of fraud, waste or abuse in the public sector, or misconduct in the private sector.

The Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion is newly formed, focused on reducing discrimination in financial services, underrepresentation of women and minorities on boards of financial institutions, and expanding access to a broader range of financial services for low- and moderate-income individuals and communities.

This subcommittee will play an integral role as we move to make financial institutions and practices safer and more transparent for the American people." Garcia said.
