HOUSTON — Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) announced $149.5 million to help hardworking Texas families with energy costs this winter through the Department of Health and Human Services' Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). As American's continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, LIHEAP grantees will be able to use the funding appropriated by Congress, along with funding made available through the American Rescue Plan Act, to help more than 5 million households stay warm this winter, cover utility costs and pay for energy repairs.

Local families who need assistance should contact Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs at 1-866-454-8387 or visit their website.

"After the devastating effects of this year's Texas grid crisis for our working families, and as they continue recovering from the pandemic, this investment will help families afford energy costs and stay warm, safe, and healthy this winter," said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29).

These funds are in addition to $134,407,308 Texas families received in May from the American Rescue Plan to help cover energy costs during the summer months.
