Houston, TX – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement on the need for the Senate to pass the Dream and Promise Act on the one-year anniversary of its passage in the House of Representatives.

"Dreamers are American in every sense of the word except on paper," said Congresswoman Garcia. "The Dream and Promise Act is about giving Dreamers an opportunity to achieve the American dream by providing them with a pathway to citizenship."

"A year ago today, I proudly joined my colleagues in the House of Representatives to vote for the Dream and Promise Act. I did so because Dreamers only know America as their home and they are valued, contributing members of the Houston community and communities all across our great country," continued Congresswoman Garcia.

"It is time for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to stop playing political games with the lives of our Dreamers. In the next couple of weeks, the United States Supreme Court will be issuing its decision on the constitutionality of DACA, a program which protects our Dreamers. The Senate has a responsibility to act now to defend these brave Americans who deserve real protections under the law. Dreamers are here to stay because their home is here," concluded Congresswoman Garcia.
