Washington D.C.Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, in solidarity with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), has raised strong objections to the Biden administration's recent measures limiting access to America's asylum system and implementing other immigration policies that will jeopardize the safety of asylum seekers.

“Latino leaders have been left out of critical negotiations concerning our immigration system and the crucial allocation of funds to support Ukraine and Israel,” said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. “I refuse to support a return to the harsh practices of the Trump era, characterized by detention centers, children held in cages, and families torn apart. My vote was cast for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris – I am not turning back the clock, nor am I trading my House Democrats blue shirt for a red MAGA hat.”

“We must do better. I URGE Majority Leader Schumer and the Biden Administration to include Latino leaders in these conversations to represent our Latino communities. We must uphold the American promise — to welcome those fleeing harm. It is our MORAL DUTY to uphold the values of compassion and humanity, especially when lives are at stake,” concluded Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia.
