Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Statement on Major New Actions by Biden-Harris Administration to Lower Housing Costs

HOUSTON — Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (D-TX-29) issued the following statement regarding the latest actions by the Biden-Harris Administration to lower housing costs by limiting rent increases and building more homes:

“This is an example of how the laws we pass in Congress move America forward, brick by brick, beam by beam. Once again, the Biden-Harris Administration, supported by House Democrats, is leading the most consequential housing policy agenda in decades, ensuring affordable and equitable housing opportunities for all Americans.

“I’m glad to see Choice Neighborhoods grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development going to cities like Houston to build more affordable homes, spur economic development, and revitalize neighborhoods. When you have the stability that a safe, affordable home provides, you can focus on the other things that matter in life. These actions to lower housing and rental costs make that possible.

“House Democrats on the Financial Services Committee remain committed to sending the President bills that would make the dream of homeownership accessible and affordable for minority communities and first-time homebuyers. We just need the Republicans to come to the table.”
