Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Responds to Governor Greg Abbott’s Political Stunt Which Calls for Migrants to be Transported to D.C.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's disturbing directive calling for asylum seekers at the Texas border to be transported and released at the steps of the United States Capitol.

"I'm deeply troubled by Governor Abbott's heinous political stunt calling for the unfair punishment of vulnerable asylum seekers. He is targeting innocent people for simply escaping desolate poverty, cruel violence, and extremely dangerous situations."

"These are families that with proper resources and support could contribute immensely to the Lone Star State. As Texans, we are raised to be welcoming and supportive of those in need. Governor Abbott's actions are politically motivated and dehumanizing to those already suffering. His actions go against what we as Texans are taught to do."
