Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Requests Funding for Transportation and Infrastructure Projects in the 29th District.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in response after submitting funding requests for three transportation and infrastructure projects to benefit the 29th Congressional District of Texas.
"Today I sent a letter to Chairman DeFazio requesting surface transportation reauthorization funds for projects in the City of South Houston, and Greater Northside and East End in Houston. These projects will ensure that all communities have equitable access to safe and reliable transportation. Whether making the walk to school for children safer in South Houston by installing sidewalks, adding ADA ramps and other safety features to METRO stops in the Northside, or increasing connectivity in the East End, these projects will all improve the quality of life for constituents."
"I want to thank the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee for their consideration of these vital projects. With the support of the Biden administration, we can continue to modernize and improve of infrastructure to be better prepared for the future."
These projects, combined, if authorized, will bring over $12,000,000 back to the 29th District. Members are encouraged to apply for funding towards projects that meet the committee's requirements. The application for TX-29 was open from April 9th to the 20th and publicly available on Congresswoman Garcia's official website. The selection process was competitive, with many more projects applying than funds available.
