Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement on the passage of the bold and historicProtecting Our Kids Act.

"Following the tragedies in Uvalde, Buffalo, and across the country, my Democratic colleagues and I decided to act. The House took another key step in confronting the gun violence epidemic by passing the Protecting Our Kids Act. I'm proud to support this bill because it will reduce preventable gun violence by raising the purchasing age for assault weapons to 21 years, cracking down on gun trafficking, strengthening gun safety storage requirements, outlawing high-capacity magazines, and more."

"Guns are shockingly the number one killer of children in America, and sadly, more than 100 people die of gun violence every day. Enough is enough – we chose to protect our children and communities. I now call on my colleagues in the Senate to swiftly pass this common-sense bill. The time to act is now."
