Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Invites Houston Health Care Leader Marcie Mir to President Trump's Address to Congress to Highlight Republicans’ Proposed Medicaid Cuts
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) is excited to announce that Marcie Mir, Chief Executive Officer of El Centro de Corazón, will be her guest for President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress later this evening.
Marcie Mir has been a driving force behind expanding healthcare access in Houston's East End. As a leader at El Centro de Corazón, an accomplished Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), she has helped grow its services, providing essential medical, dental, and behavioral health care to thousands of low-income uninsured families.
Proposed Trump and Republican-led Medicaid cuts threaten the vital services that El Centro de Corazón provides to the Greater Houston region. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, El Centro depends on Medicaid funding to offer essential care, as do FQHCs nationwide. Marcie Mir has dedicated her career to expanding access to these services, but cuts could force clinics to reduce care or even close—leaving vulnerable families without options.
“Marcie Mir has dedicated her life to making sure families in Houston's East End have access to quality, affordable healthcare. As the leader of El Centro de Corazón, she has been a tireless advocate for the underserved, expanding vital services to those who need them most,” said Congresswoman Garcia. “At a time when proposed cuts to Medicaid and community health programs threaten the well-being of millions, Marcie's story is a powerful reminder of why we must protect these critical resources. I am honored to have her as my guest for the President's address to Congress to highlight the urgent need to safeguard healthcare for all.”
"It's an honor to be invited to the joint address. Working for a Federally Qualified Health Center, I know firsthand the damaging impact cuts to Medicaid and freezes to federal funding will cause to our most vulnerable communities," said Mir. "Access to quality healthcare is critical for the overall well-being of each and every person."
Congresswoman Garcia proudly welcomes Marcie Mir to this year's joint address to Congress to share the story of El Centro de Corazón and the critical work they do to serve working families across the Greater Houston region.
