Houston, TX – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) joined her colleagues in condemning Attorney General Barr's role in the cracking down of protesters in Lafayette Park across from the White House in order for the President to have a photo-op outside a church. In light of this, the Congresswoman and her colleagues are calling for a special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate the Attorney General's actions, a blatant attempt to limit the freedom of assembly enshrined in the Constitution.

Congresswoman Garcia's Statement:

"Earlier in the week, the President ordered the military to use teargas against peaceful protesters across the street from the White House in Lafayette Park. This goes against everything our country stands for. This was yet another example of a pattern of behavior that demonstrates that the President thinks he is above the law. What is even more alarming is that the Attorney General, who is supposed to be an impartial arbiter of justice, supported the President in this unconstitutional crackdown of peaceful protesters. The Attorney General must be investigated for his role in undermining our Constitution."
