HOUSTON, TX – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issues statement commending the Supreme Court's decision, which determined that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is reviewable by the court and that the Trump Administration's decision to rescind the program was "arbitrary and capricious."

"From the very beginning of Trump's presidential campaign in 2016, he has attacked immigrants to score political points with his base. When Trump decided to phase out DACA in 2017, it was just another example of an administration hellbent on demonizing immigrants who contribute billions to the U.S. economy and are an important part of communities like mine in Houston and all across the country.

Despite these efforts, today, the Supreme Court upheld DACA and determined that the Trump Administration's decision to rescind the program was "arbitrary and capricious." I commend the Supreme Court for ensuring DREAMers can continue to have critical legal protections. This decision further proves why the U.S. Senate must codify these protections into law by finally passing the Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6).

Our DREAMers are American in every sense, except on paper. In the middle of this pandemic, many of them have been on the frontlines working to beat COVID-19 because this is the only country they know and their home is here. DREAMers only want an opportunity to achieve the American Dream, and this decision gives them an opportunity to do just that."
