Democrats launch ‘full-court press’ to protect Dreamers, extend DACA program

WASHINGTON — Democrats in Congress say they are preparing a "full-court press" to pass legislation protecting so-called Dreamers — including more than 100,000 Texans who were brought into the country as children — from deportation while a Texas lawsuit threatens an Obama-era program that has allowed them to stay and work in the U.S. for the last decade.

U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a Houston Democrat, pointed to polling that has shown as many as three-quarters of Americans support granting permanent legal status to immigrants brought to the country as children.
