9-year old trans kids advocate reps Houston at Biden's White House Easter Egg Roll

Sunny Bryant has been busy lately working to advocate for equality and justice for transgender children like herself who have been targeted by Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas lawmakers in anti-trans legislation.

But on Monday the now 9-year old Houston activist got to take a break from the fight for transgender kids' rights to roll colorful eggs on the South Lawn of the White House as part of its famed Easter Egg roll.

The whole experience "felt like a gift," her mother said, noting that after all kids like her have been through recently, it was "something we earned."

It would mark nearly the second time in two months the bubbly third grader has been in the president's orbit after she and her family attended Biden's State of the Union address virtually as honored guests of U.S. Rep. and Houston Democrat, Sylvia Garcia, who represents the area where her family lives.

After a two-year COVID-19 hiatus at the White House, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden resumed a longtime tradition where children use wooden spoons to coax colorful eggs in a race across the South Lawn. They welcomed 30,000 people to the event Monday and the first lady introduced a new theme for the gathering, dubbed "EGGucation! The event featured a schoolhouse activity area, a reading nook, a talent show, a simulated field trip to a farm, a picture day, a physical "EGGucation" zone, a cafetorium, among other activities, according to a release.

"As a teacher, my heart is always in the classroom," the first lady wrote on Twitter.
