WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) issued a statement on the United States Supreme Court's refusal to block the Texas abortion ban currently affecting millions of women in Texas and limiting their freedom to decide over their bodies:

"I am very disappointed to hear that the Supreme Court has again refused to block the dangerous Texas abortion ban. This ban has been in effect for nearly two months, causing serious harm to women in our state – especially women from low-income communities who can't travel nine hours to other states to get the care they need. Every minute that the Supreme Court allows this horrific law to remain in effect causes real, tangible harm to women in our communities. We need to codify Roe v. Wade so we can truly protect a woman's freedom to decide over their body. I will not back down from this fight, we must protect our reproductive rights."

Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent the Texas 29th Congressional District. She serves on the House Judiciary and Financial Services Committees.
