The Texas Tribune reports Attorney General Ken Paxton as well as Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz are asking the court to the practice. Meanwhile, three Texas democratic representatives, Joaquin Castro, Sylvia Garcia and Marc Veasey, said they support keeping it.
Close to a dozen Democratic lawmakers called on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to explain how many Americans will lose their jobs as a result of their efforts to mitigate high inflation.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), and Reps. Madeleine Dean (Pa.), Jesús Garcia (Ill.), Sylvia Garcia (Texas), Katie Porter (Calif.), Stephen Lynch (Mass.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.) signed the letter to Powell sent on Monday.
Given the lawmakers' concerns about the consequences of the Fed's dangerous policy decisions, they are asking Chair Powell to answer a set of questions about how many millions of people the Fed estimates will be thrown out of their jobs due to interest rate hikes, and more information about these and other unemployment forecasts by November 14, 2022.

The contingent of elected officials joining the festivities included U.S. Representatives Sylvia Garcia, Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green; Houston City Council members Karla Cisneros, Sallie Alcorn and Tiffany Thomas; and State Representative Armando Rodriguez; plus City Attorney Arturo Michel.
The push to send more Republican Latinas from Texas to Congress came after Democratic Reps. Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia made history in 2018 as the first Latinas elected to the House from Texas.
"I'm proud of the $6,225,000 in federal funds awarded to Houston Independent School District (HISD) to invest in 25 new school buses," said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. "These funds were only made possible by President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. I was proud to support this law in Congress because I knew it would benefit students right here in our community. This will improve our local environment and allow HISD students to enjoy 15 brand-new electric buses as they continue their education.
