Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) voted in favor of the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022. This bill will invest in the Houston Region's water resources infrastructure, protect local Texas communities, and keep America competitive.

"I'm proud to vote in support of WRDA 2022 because it will strengthen Houston's local economy by authorizing nearly $31 billion dollars for investments in regional water infrastructure", said Congresswoman Garcia. "We have worked hard to get us this far in authorizing infrastructure projects. Rest assured, we will double up our efforts to secure their funding. This will our Houston Region competitive while carrying out local projects in an environmentally and socially responsible way."

Congresswoman Garcia tirelessly fought for two key local projects, including the:

  • Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Project's construction authorization, AKA "Ike Dike"
  • Expedited Completion of the Study for the Modification of current barge lanes in the current Houston Ship Channel Expansion Channel Improvement Project feasibility study

Now that WRDA has passed the House, the legislation must pass the Senate to ensure that WRDA 2022 is signed into law.
