Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Statement on the Four-Year Anniversary of the January 6 Insurrection

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) issued the following statement on the four-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection on the U.S. Capitol and certification of the 2024 election:

“Today, I will vote to certify the 2024 election, just as I did four years ago. Unlike some of my Republican colleagues, I respect the integrity of our elections and their outcomes.

"But let me be clear: I am deeply troubled by efforts from some on the President-elect’s side to rewrite history–attempting to downplay or erase the reality of the Capitol insurrection. How dare they.

"We will never forget January 6, 2021—a day that will forever live in infamy in our nation’s history. And we will never stop fighting for our democracy. 

"To the brave officers of the U.S. Capitol Police who stood in the breach and defended our democracy, you remain in my prayers. You protected not just this institution, but the will of the American people. Your courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"And to those who stormed the Capitol: justice must prevail. This is a nation of laws, and no one is above them.”
