Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Re-Elected as Whip of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (D-TX-29) was re-elected by her peers to serve a second term as the Whip of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC). Her leadership continues at a critical time for Latinos across the nation as the CHC works to address key issues affecting Hispanic communities.
“Now more than ever, we must come together to amplify the voices and priorities of Latinos across the country,” said Congresswoman Garcia. “In the face of rising anti-immigrant, anti-worker, and anti-Latino sentiment, we must stand firm, lead with solutions, and push back against injustice.”
“My colleagues and I are dedicated to advancing policies that uplift the Hispanic community, such as fighting for good paying jobs with strong worker protections, working to address the housing affordability crisis, and pushing for policies that will reduce the cost of everyday goods like groceries and gas,” added Congresswoman Garcia. “We also remain committed to pushing transformational legislation, including my American Dream and Promise Act, which will provide Dreamers, TPS recipients, and DED beneficiaries with a pathway to citizenship and unlock their full economic potential. As Whip, I will always keep our Caucus focused on the issues that matter most to our constituents.”
Congresswoman Garcia joins a leadership team led by Chair-elect Adriano Espaillat (D-NY-13), marking a historic moment for the Caucus. Congressman Espaillat, the first Dominican American and first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress, brings a wealth of experience to his new role that will help move our Caucus forward.
“Adriano has been an inspiring leader and colleague during his time as Deputy Chair,” Congresswoman Garcia concluded. “His election as Chair is a milestone for our Caucus, and I look forward to supporting his leadership as we continue advocating for Latino communities nationwide.”
