Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Statement on Supreme Court Decision on Presidential Immunity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (D-TX-29) today issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision in Trump v. United States:

“Today, the Supreme Court has confirmed that no former, current, or future president is above the law for unofficial acts that violate our criminal laws. However, the extreme right-wing majority has left us in a state of limbo regarding what qualifies as an official and unofficial act, and how far that definition extends. These constitutional questions aside, as a former impeachment manager, and one of many members in the House chamber on January 6th, I can say confidently that Donald Trump is an aspiring dictator who does not respect our Constitution nor the rule of law. I am gravely concerned about this unprecedented power granted to the presidency and what this means for the future of our democracy.”
