Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement in honor of the late Lupe "Champ" Fraga:

"Lupe Fraga, known affectionately by the community as simply "Champ", was a Houston legend who grew up in the East End. Over the decades, Champ became known as a pioneer in the Latino business community, a neighborhood leader, a dedicated public servant, and an honorable veteran who served in the U.S. Army."

"Champ's company, Tejas Products, was regularly recognized as a top small business in the Houston region by going the extra mile for their customers. But alongside business efforts, he was also Chairman of both the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and Houston's Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. On top of this, Champ also served on dozens of boards and filled many leadership positions, including serving on the Board of Regents of Texas A&M University following an appointment by the Governor."

"Houston will miss Champ and his friendly smile. The positivity he brought to our community will be felt for years to come. I send my love and condolences to the entire Fraga family as we remember Champ and all the wonderful things he accomplished."
