Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia Issues Statement On The Senate’s Decision to Block the Creation of the Jan. 6 commission

May 28, 2021

Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement regarding the Senate's decision to block the creation of a commission to investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol:

"It's a sad day for our democracy. I am deeply disappointed about the Senate Republican's decision to block the creation of the January 6th Commission. The Senate has an obligation to protect our democracy and today, it failed the American people," said Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) "On January 6th, my colleagues and I personally experienced the horrific attack on our Capitol. We saw first-hand how bad actors were trying to take over and stop a legitimate election from being certified. Today's decision will only validate the efforts of a twice impeached former president who, with lies and violence, tried to corrupt our democracy and betray our Nation. Well, I will not let it happen on my watch. I will keep working with my colleagues until those who are responsible are held accountable."
